@DVF Reiterates the Importance of Model Guidelines!

When I first arrived into the industry of fashion and someone asked me what I thought a fashion show was I would answer, “It’s a bunch of scarily skinny 12 year olds wearing great dresses.”

Now, Diane Von Furstenberg is out to make that statement only partially true! Yes, a fashion show is donned with great dresses, but thanks to Diane, she is making sure underage and unhealthy models don’t make the runway.

With the CFDA’s help, Diane created a set of rules that all casting agencies should abide by for the New York Fashion Week: No Models under 16, Models under 18 must not work passed midnight, Agencies must monitor model’s eating habits (this is a generality, there is more to this rule) and all models must present ID to casting agencies and production teams.

I for one am extremely proud of Ms. Furstenberg for putting her foot down on this issue. Too many young girls, me at one time included, aspire to be like these models and to look like them which can be very damaging to one’s self esteem if they cannot attain those ridiculous goals. (Shocking Fact: even Adrianna Lima has admitted that before a runway, she would adopt a liquid diet for 9 days!!!) These rules are also a protection for the models, no alcohol will be permitted backstage and young models will get to go to bed before midnight! Great thinking Ms. Furstenberg!
