Katya Leonovich’s Fall 2012 presentation showed on February 10th at 6:30pm. It was a very innovative print driven presentation.
Bold: It was incredibly bold of Katya to use the patterns that she created in shapes that don’t often occur. Her deconstructed chic effect was well received and I thought that her clothes albeit not really ready-to-wear felt couture-ish and could be worn separately!
Jackets: What drew most of my focus in Katya’s show, were the jackets. I would kill for any of those amazing geometrical jackets. Some were quilted but my favorites were the batwing jacket and the white fur jacket. I loved the ingenuity of the collars. (note to self: Find Katya, get fitted, get jacket)
Improvements: While I loved most of her amazing clothes, I felt that it was a little disjointed and there wasn’t enough continuity. The patterns didn’t really go with the quilted and some things were deconstructed while others beautifully angular and tailored and the color palette, while gorgeous, didn’t really fit together.
However, Katya needs not to worry about making a cohesive story yet with her clothes, I got who she was making the clothes for and loved the construction of her collection. Can’t wait to see more from her!
