Rachel Antonoff held a star-studded presentation on Saturday, February 11. In attendance were: Nicolette Mason, Tavi Gevinson, Spanglish and Gossip Girl Actress Sarah Steele, with actress and singer Alia Shawkat singing during her presentation. There was also the odd appearance of Rachel’s cat!
Bold: Rachel Antonoff’s Collection was sweet. Unfortunately to me, there was nothing bold about it. It kind of reminded me of the Jason Wu for Target collection. Lots of Peter Pan collars, and sweet dresses but nothing that made my jaw drop. All dresses and separates were made impeccably.
Ease: The thing I loved most about Rachel Antonoff’s collection, was the ease I felt from the clothes. Any of the clothing on display, I could wear and feel completely comfortable in. I especially loved the black dress with jeweled/ sequined cap sleeves. I also loved the puffed sleeved tan Peter Pan dress with beaded detailing! A lot of work went into that dress but there was still a bit of ease in it. In the case that you feel if you were running late and just needed to throw something on and be fabulous in it, this dress would be it.
Improvements: I think the one thing that was missing from Rachel Antonoff’s presentation was boldness. I felt there were no risks taken. Maybe to her, her risk was the cat displayed with the models. But I felt there were no construction risks, color risks, or even styling risks. Everything was just sweet.
That’s not to say I didn’t enjoy the collection, because I thoroughly enjoyed the whimsy of the set design and ironic sweatshirts. I would just like to see Rachel become dangerous with her clothes.
